Dick Clark - Another Time Another Place

Yesterday,Dick Clark passed away.  "American Bandstand" was part of the scene in Philadelphia in the 1950's.  Televisions were on all over town.  Who would Dick have on the show today? Fraternity pledges from the local colleges could be seen wearing their unusual attire--dark grey suits, white shirts and rep ties.  I cannot remember any of the Sororities sending their pledges but those dark grey suits really stood out.  Quite a few dates were arranged with older high school "ladies" and the…See More

Fine Tuning Toomer's Corner Live

Now that Auburn Family has the unique capability to show The Corner live at any part of the day or night, there are ways to add to the enjoyment. How about all of the present fraternity brothers and/or sisters of a fraternity getting together at a fixed time of day to wish their alumni the best?  All it might take is getting all of that particular alumni to know what the proper time would be long before the actual event. You might even have printed signs welcoming your alumni/ae.  This feature…See More

You Are Not Alone

I just got off the phone with one of my closest friends who had stayed "out of touch" because he was and had been hurting for some time. "I didn't want to make you feel as bad as I am feeling." was his comment.  It seems that somehow today we only want to pass on the good stories with the happiest of endings. Our closest friendships were created sharing the best of both worlds. Why then do we turn off or forget the best of these past times? You and I are NEVER alone. Let's be able to share…See More

"Toomer's Corner Live" :: The Heart of Auburn

As i first arrive each day on these pages, I see Toomers Corner. I can make it "take motion" by merely using my mouse.  Instantly, memories of the past are recalled with many good times, many friends, fellow students and faculty friends. As I screen down the page,I can catch new videos and new blogs. I can keep up on what's happening every day.  The feelings of the students and their dreams.   But,I can also screen down to the left side and hear the words of Harvey Updike.  There no longer is…See More

You Can't Change the Harvest

In this industrial age, things sometimes get overly complicated.  There never seems to be a simple solution to the day to day problems that confront us.   Maybe, we need to get back to our farming roots.  A good farmer knows that if you plant corn, you will grow corn.  Never can you plant corn and get wheat.  As that good farmer you know that you will only ever get whatever you planted.  You can't change the harvest.  Be careful of what you plant in life!See More

Internships Key To Your Future

It is great to read about the various internships Auburn students choose.  How often does the incoming freshman wonder about what field they wish to pursue?  You can read all you want about a field of endeavor and talk to any number of alumni or faculty who work or have worked in the field. Each of these, just sort of by necessity, adds some bias to the "true picture."  What ever field you DO choose, you WILL benefit from time right there doing the every day tasks that make up that particular…See More

Cam Newton in the Pro Bowl

Cam Newton was selected to play in the Pro Bowl in Hawaii this past weekend.  This is unusual for a rookie quarteback. Cam played the whole second half of the game. He passed for 186 yards and two touchdowns.  The legend continues. What will his future be like?  Keep tuned!!See More

Never That Far from Auburn

Good news on our favorite Auburn Family Page that the President of the University announced the replacement of the Toomers Oaks!  Anytime you return to these pages, you are greeted with a live webcam of Toomers Corner.  How big is this in all of our memories? In the future now,you will continue to be able to renew those memories just by returning to these pages. Toomers with the new trees will be there to greet you! Those crossing the street today don't look that much different than the days…See More

Hey Roger, Sorry I'm so late replying.  Things have been really busy since the holidays....enough so that I am JUST getting my decorations down.  Hope everything is going well for you.  Working with a builder at the moment trying to get so presales going....looks like I'm going to have to go back and get my real estate license again.  ugh!  Wish I'd never let it go...but oh well.  Let me know how you're doing.
