On Monday, April 23, a number of distinguished philanthropists will speak at the 10th Annual Spring Symposium and Luncheon, an event hosted by the Women’s Philanthropy Board. Each year, Auburn gives a $1000 scholarship to a student in honor of former Dean of Students, Dr. James E. Foy. The Foy family established the award to recognize a student who exhibits qualities of leadership, character and a commitment to the Auburn community while maintaining a job to help fund education expenses.  This year, Jack Roberson was selected for the scholarship. In tough economic times, keeping a small business afloat is not an easy task, said Haley Penny, owner of The Pink Room boutique located on South College Street. Penny, Auburn alum, has been in the small business industry since June 2006. She launched Simply Charming, a clothing boutique, with the hopes of catering to a college crowd in need of an enjoyable shopping experience. “Things were great from 2006 to probably the beginning of 2009,” Penny said. “That’s when the economy kind of bombed.”…See More

A New Gnu's Room

Books and coffee are not the only things the Gnu’s Room has to offer.



Located on Gay Street next to Amsterdam’s Café, the Gnu’s Room recently made the decision to become a non-profit organization and renovate its space. So far, they’ve raised $8,400 through fundraising events and donations.
