For those who call The Loveliest Village on the Plains home and those just passing through, these crave-worthy menu items are worth the stop. Here is a sampling of some of Auburn's most enjoyable food choices.
1. SHEILA C’S BURGER BARN- CHEESEBURGER COMBO
A cheeseburger combo from Sheila C’s Burger Barn is exactly what a cheeseburger combo should be. It’s not glorified with artesian bread and cheeses or dressed with a decadent aioli.
The juicy, all beef patty sits on a bun dressed with mayonnaise, ketchup and mustard. “All the way” includes a slice of yellow American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle.

2. AMSTERDAM CAFÉ- CRAB CAKE AND AVOCADO SANDWICH
The Van Gogh-esque Amsterdam Café features a crab cake and avocado sandwich voted “100 Dishes to Eat in Alabama Before You die.” Atop a flaky croissant lies buttery sliced avocado and a fresh jumbo lump crab cake.
House made mango pico de gallo and remoulade sauce add a sweet and tangy element to the sandwich. Try it with a side of crispy sweet potato chips. (Photo, left, courtesy: Caroline Holder)
3. BIG BLUE BAGEL- TIGER MELT
Located in the center of downtown Auburn, Big Blue Bagel is a favorite spot for many students and locals. If the name doesn’t give it away, bagels are the centerpiece for this dining hotspot.
The Tiger Melt begins with your choice of a bagel topped with a scoop of chicken salad and topped with a slice of Colby cheese. Sydney Brown, an employee at Big Blue Bagel, describes the Tiger Melt as "filling, flavorful and delicious."
The sandwich is toasted and served open face. To ensure you get your fill of bagels, try it with a side of bagel chips. (Photo, right, courtesy: Caroline Holder)
4. BYRON’S BBQ- CHIPPED PORK PLATE WITH CORNBREAD AND FIXINS’
Since 1989, Byron’s has been serving home-style breakfast and Southern barbecue.
Like many barbecue restaurants, there are many cuts of meat to choose from and how it can be served.
To make the most of your experience, try a chipped pork plate with your choice of sides. When given the option of sliced white bread or cornbread, know that you cannot go wrong with the cornbread muffins.
