Mary Ashley Whisenhunt, a freshmen majoring in apparel merchandising, was excited to experience her first A-Day game this past weekend.

A-Day is Auburn’s annual spring scrimmage that attracted more than 43,000 fans Saturday, April 14, 2012.

Whisenhunt dates one of the players that participated in the scrimmage, Christian Westermen, who is a starting offensive lineman for the Auburn football team.

“I really enjoyed the game, it was nice to see the team together and get to see Christian play,” said Whisenhunt.

Both Whisenhunt and Westerman had family come in this past weekend to show their support for the Auburn football team.

When asked about how she felt about the A-Day game and what it meant to her, Whisenhunt said, “It made me excited for the season to start, this will be Christian’s first year starting for Auburn, so it is exciting to see that all begin.”

The couple both moved to Auburn this past fall from Arizona to pursue Westermen’s college football career.

Saturday was an exciting and anticipated day for them both. Whisenhunt was proud to show her support with her family and see the team play.

“I tailgated with my family and Christian’s family before the game,” said Whisenhunt. “My mom came in town and Christian’s parents and grandparents also came to watch the game and show their support for him.”

When asked about his experience at the game Westermen said, “The game was fun, and it was nice to see everyone at the stadium, War Eagle!”

This year A-Day also included an unveiling ceremony of the three Heisman statues. Pat Sullivan, Bo Jackson and Cam Newton were all in attendance for the unveiling which was a proud moment for the Auburn football family.
