A new team will enter the stands this fall to welcome Tiger Fans as they arrive at Jordan-Hare Stadium every game day. Auburn Athletics has introduced the Tiger Engagement Assistance Member (TEAM) program to their roster this fall to increase the quality of fans’ experiences and serve as game day liaisons between the Auburn Family.
After noticing that guest service booths had been difficult for fans and visitors to locate, Auburn Athletics’ event management team knew that there was room to improve. Therefore as Jordan-Hare Stadium’s video board expanded, so did TEAM.
“We decided that we wanted students as enthusiastic as they come in order to give our fans tailored game day assistance,” said Kathryn Benda, event coordinator for Auburn Athletics.
Before each “War Eagle” battle cry or kickoff, TEAM is responsible for setting a positive first impression of the Auburn game day experience. This includes welcoming fans as they walk into the stadium, offering visitors refreshments in the stands, and communicating any fans’ concerns to security officers.
“Responsibilities vary,” Benda said. “They can be as simple as saying ‘War Eagle’ to someone entering the stadium or handling a specific situation in the stands.”
Dressed in trademark white polo shirts and navy slacks, TEAM consists of fourteen student members, including a captain, that will be prepared and available to cater to any situation in the stands. If a fan has a problem, they can text “Auburn” to 69050 with their issue and location and one of the 15 members will be sent to assist.
Because of the extensive responsibilities and situations, members are required to participate in a preseason training program to experience what makes the Auburn Family unique and prepare for a variety of scenarios. This includes learning about the stadium, Auburn football, Auburn’s history, etc. Most importantly, members learn how to foster relationships with the public and improve their critical thinking skills.
“This program really helps (members) open up,” Benda said. “It allows members to get comfortable in their knowledge, their skills, and grow them as a person and professional.”
Although TEAM is reserved for football games, Auburn Athletics is currently looking to bring the customer service interaction program to basketball and baseball events.
