The Tigers are gearing up for first game of the season this Friday, Sept. 4 in Jordan-Hare Stadium. This is the day we’ve all been waiting for. This is the day that Auburn fans everywhere have been anticipating. We’ve been marking our calendars for September 4 for months now.
Game Day is a magical place on Auburn’s campus. The smell of tailgating, the cheers of the stadium, and orange and blue as far as you can see. Game Day on campus is a place where students, family, and alumni all come together to cheer on their boys who have been working so hard this year.
Scott Andrews, who is a senior at Auburn University said, “Everybody’s looking forward to this season. The guys have worked real hard, at camp, all summer and the off-season getting ready for this season so the team’s spirits are very high right now.”
Auburn students have high expectations for their team this year… and they’re not the only ones. Kirk Herbstreit of ESPN picked Auburn to win in the West. Cameron Newton, Auburn’s new quarterback, gives fans a hope of an unstoppable offense. However, the players are going by the words of Coach Chizik and just “taking it one game at a time.”
Coach Chizik and his staff did an amazing job with the Tigers last year and it only brings fans more hope for an excellent season this year. Chizik is Auburn’s first head coach to win a bowl game in his first season coaching. “Last season gave everybody hope about this new coaching staff. We’re all looking forward to it, myself included. I’m just ready to get this season underway,” says Andrews.
Students have high expectations for the Tigers this season but it’s not only the actual game that students get excited about. Tailgating at Auburn has always been a huge part of Game Day. Families set up RV’s days in advance and alumni come back to their old home of the plains to watch the game. The anticipation for the season opener is almost over. The day we’ve longed for is almost here.
