The Interfraternity Council (IFC) at Auburn University received four fraternity excellence awards at the Southeastern Interfraternity Conference on Feb. 13, 2010, in Atlanta, Ga. The awards were received in the categories of: Risk Management & Judicial Procedures, Outstanding Educational Program, Community Service & Philanthropy, and Campus & Community Relations.
IFC earned the first award for implementing "Leadership Day," where all fraternity presidents and social chairs were educated on risk management. Also, IFC followed all court and judicial mediation procedures when handling judicial cases.
The "Party Done Right" was an educational program that IFC hosted at a fraternity house. Several members of the Greek community were invited to attend this band party that was a model for a safe social event. The party was videotaped and will be used for future educational training.
It's no surprise that Auburn's IFC won the award for Community Service and Philanthropy. Between the Philanthropy Challenge, IFC Carnival for the Lee County Boys and Girls Club, IMPACT and Project Uplift, IFC has spent a great amount of time and effort encouraging Greeks to participate in philanthropic activities.
Recognizing those who keep Auburn University and the Auburn area safe, IFC held a luncheon with Panhellenic and NPHC to say "thank you" to those who serve and protect us. This helped IFC earn the award for Campus & Community Relations.
Thomas Burke, IFC's Administrative Vice President, attended the conference with the rest of executive council and saw every effort this past year as a priceless experience.
"We held events each month to bring together fraternity men," said Burke. " We really wanted to work on the community aspect of our fraternities."
IFC provided the opportunity for Greek men to do hands-on work and participate in events on and off-campus to better the community and the university.
