War Eagle!  Bragging rights belong to Auburn in more than football.   The latest Forbes list of the best colleges puts Auburn way ahead of cross-state rival Alabama.

Forbes' rankings are quite a bit different from U.S. News & World Report's "Best Colleges" list released earlier this yearU.S. News rated the University of Alabama as the state's top college and No. 86 nationally. Auburn checked in at No. 91 on the magazine's list, followed by UAB at No. 152 and UAH at No. 181.  See the full story on Forbes.com.

How does Forbes calculate the best colleges?  They focus on cost and what graduates will earn far more than the U.S. News annual rankings.

For the seventh year, FORBES has partnered exclusively with the Washington, D.C.-based Center for College Affordability and Productivity (CCAP). What sets our calculation of 650 colleges and universities apart from other rankings is our firm belief in “output” over “input.” We’re not all that interested in what gets a student into college. Our sights are set directly on ROI: What are students getting out of college. (See CCAP’s full methodology here.) We useNational Center for Education Statistics data and PayScale as sources, among others.  (Via Forbes.com.)
