The Student Activities Center
is a great place for students to go to work out or even just play sports. Many students take part in what the Student Act has to offer, while others do not know as much about it. The Act offers many exercise classes, personal training, basketball games, and many other activities.
A senior, Katy Mac Tweedy, who attends the gym at the act regularly had only wonderful things to say about the equipment there. “They have everything I need from treadmills to elliptical machines to free weights. The guys really use the weight room more but I love the gym,” Tweedy says.
Tweedy feels, as many other students do, that the Act is the best place around Auburn for students to work out. “We are already paying for it in our tuition, so I don’t really know why anyone would go to another gym they have to pay for,” Tweedy says. The Act is a great place now, but will be even better when Auburn soon builds the new Student Activities Center that is currently in the works.
The new and improved recreation center will be called the Wellness and Sustainability Center
. The building will be built using “green” standards as an effort to make Auburn a more sustainable campus. There will also be ways for students to learn about more sustainable leaving.
The new track in the building will be in a corkscrew loop shape, rather than the standard track circle. There will be balconies to look over the pool for students to have a nice place for some leisure time. The weight room at the top of the Wellness and Sustainability will have a 360 view of Auburn’s campus.
“I hate that I won’t be here to experience the new recreation center, but I’m excited for the future students to use it. I think it will be a great way to encourage students to get moving a little more,” Tweedy says. Tweedy as well as other students will come back to see the Wellness and Sustainability Center once it is complete.
