Want to dance the night away, play games and enjoy snacks all while benefiting the Children’s Miracle Network? Then the annual Auburn University Dance Marathon is the event to go to this Saturday Feb. 2. This annual dance party raises money for children with illnesses and all of the money raised at the event will go directly to the Columbus, Ga. Regional Health Care System.
Children’s Miracle Network is an organization that helps raise money for sick children with different diseases. The organization has made many things possible for children through donations and events.
February 2012 was the first time Auburn University held this event and it ended up being very successful. The event raised $65,995.25. This year the event is expected to exceed this amount due to growth in involvement on campus and through out the community.
The money raised goes specifically to the Columbus Hospital to purchase more intensive care unit infant beds.
“The event has already raised enough money for two beds and the goal is to raise enough money for one more,” said Alex Cool, a freshman representative for AUDM.
AUDM is a 12-hour dance party filled with games and activities to keep participants moving. The theme of the dances and games will change each hour and students will link up with children to form teams through out the event. There will be different color war games and competitions through out the event.
“It will be a fun and exciting day on your feet playing games and meeting new people all while helping the children,” said Cool.
AUDM will be held on Feb. 2 in the Auburn Student Center. Part of the event will be outside the Auburn Student Center in the green space and other parts will be hosted in the Student Center Ballroom located on the third floor. This event will start at 10 a.m. and will last until 10 p.m.
Different Greek organizations compete to see who can raise the most money for the event. The AUDM staff has also sent numerous emails asking for donations to a verity of different people and companies. Along with this, the AUDM staff seeks out donations by explaining to students who the event helps and asks for small donations, loose dollars, pocket change, etc.
“I wanted to do AUDM because I am a Phi Mu and our philanthropy is also Children’s Miracle Network and I’m very passionate about helping the children as much as I can,” said Cool.
AUDM is a yearlong fundraising event and is expected to be a success this year. There will be children and families affected by the Children’s Miracle Network there to share stories and participate in the activities.
There are many different ways to get involved with AUDM. One-way is to sign up for the event and be a dancer for the day and another way is to support a dancer. There are more options located on the AUDM official website. http://www.audancemarathon.com/
