Auburn's New Wellness and Sustainability Center

Healthy, here we come! Auburn University’s new Wellness and Sustainability Center is projected to break ground in Spring 2011.

The cutting-edge facility will provide about 240,000 square feet of recreational areas for Auburn students, faculty and staff. It will also accommodate its patrons with fresh and exciting ways to make their lives healthier and happier.

The new Wellness and Sustainability Center will be located in between the new Student Village Housing and the current intramural fields on Auburn’s campus.

Two outstanding architecture firms will design Auburn’s new workout center: 360 Architecture and Infinity Architecture. These firms were selected as the best fit for the project after several tedious days of interviews and intensive architectural designs by leading architecture firms across America.

360 Architecture will serve Auburn University as their architect-of-record for the groundbreaking project. 360 Architecture is based out of Kansas City, Mo. and they are recognized across the nation as a luminary in sports and recreational designing. They are fully prepared to take on the task since they have already worked with the Auburn family on the new Auburn Arena that had its grand opening this year.

Infinity Architecture will be working closely with 360 Architecture, as they were chosen as the design team for the project. Infinity Architecture is based out of Montgomery, Ala. As a firm, Infinity Architecture has pioneered several facilities on the Auburn campus and is quick to recall the university’s standards and goals. A few of their earlier designs include those for the Wildlife Sciences building and the McWhorter Women’s Athletics Center.

This facility will continue to offer the original workout facilities, simply updated, plus some extremely innovative accommodations to spice up your exercise regimen.

Sarah Morgan, a junior in psychology, says, “I go to a workout class at least once a week. My favorite classes are kickboxing and butts and guts.”

The list of proposed amenities for the new Wellness and Sustainability Center includes everything imaginable from a rock-climbing wall to sand volleyball to a leisure outdoor pool.

When asked what she hopes to see included in the new facility Morgan replied, “I hope the new Wellness and Sustainability Center provides more rooms with bigger spaces for the fitness classes.”

Auburn University is well on its way to pursuing healthier lifestyles with the upcoming recreational center. Students, faculty and staff now have a modern and exhilarating facility to look forward to. Morgan reveals her excitement saying, “I think I will use the new place even more and I’m excited to try out the leisure pool!”
