Avoiding the Freshmen 15 in 5 simple steps

5 ways to avoid the freshmen 15

1. Register for a physical fitness class.

Nothing says skinny like an A+.

2. Avoid Stress.

Sure, it’s your first year in college and you’re a little freaked out. Stay organized and don’t procrastinate. You will be fine.

3. Avoid liquid calories like the plague.

Starbuck is good but not the 500 calories in that venti white mocha. Stick to coffee without the extra syrups. And watch the alcohol intake.

4. Encourage your friends to take fitness classes with you.

Auburn’s new recreation center has everything from Yoga to a Zumba. Go sign up and burn some calories.

5. SLEEP!

Sleep deprivation can sabotage your waistline. “When you have sleep deprivation and are running on low energy, you automatically go for a bag of potato chips or other comfort foods,” said Susan Zafarlotfi, PhD, clinical director of the Institute for Sleep and Wake Disorders at Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey.
