Be The Match, a bone marrow registry that helps find donors for people who need bone marrow or blood transplants, is making a come back on Auburn’s campus. Be the Match matches donors to patients with Leukemia, Lymphoma, Sickle Cell Anemia and other blood cancers.
More than half of people who need bone marrow or blood transplants do not have a donor match in their family. Therefore, these patients rely on Be The Match to save their lives and find a donor.

Recently, students at Auburn University have joined the Be The Match Organization to find donors and save lives on Auburn’s campus.
Madi Hall, a junior at Auburn University and fundraising and sponsorship chair for Be The Match on Auburn’s campus, is gracious to be a part of the organization because of what it has done for her family.
“My dad had two transplants from donors found through Be The Match. So I found them on campus and joined,” Hall said. “My favorite part of being involved is that I know how important is it to people and their families. I get to pay it forward for people who did that for me.”
To be on the registry to possibly become a donor you do a simple mouth swab and fill out the necessary paperwork at your local donor drive or contact a representative for Be The Match.
During the week of fundraising events, Auburn students hosted a benefit night at Moe’s Original BBQ with music featured by Chronic Grass, where all proceeds went to Be The Match.
“We do lots of fundraisers like a concert at Moe’s BBQ, a Zoe’s benefit night and two donor drives,” Hall said.
The most important part of this organization is finding donors. Auburn students have been out on the Haley Concourse on April 10 and 11, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. encouraging others students to join the registry.
“I am on the list but I’ve never donated, there are a lot of people who cant find matches,” Hall said.
