There are many clubs and organizations around Auburn’s campus that people are not aware of, like the Auburn University Club Tennis team. The club tennis team is an exciting way to get involved and meet new people, not to mention getting a stellar workout in the process.

“Club tennis is a really relaxed atmosphere,” said Christen Hoffman, a sophomore on the team.

The tennis club meets every Monday and Thursday at the tennis courts across from the Village dorms. Practice is open to all skill levels. Practice is a laid back environment where you run drills, practice your serve and hit around with friends.

The team also has a competitive team that consists of five boys and five girls. The team travels around the United States competing against other universities.

“Auburn club tennis is very competitive,” said Hoffman. “We are two-time Southern Region Champs and have gone out to nationals to Surprise, Ariz. for two years and are hoping to get a third year under our belt.”

The team will be venturing to Clemson in a few weeks to play a tournament and they are talking to the University of Florida about traveling there to play. The other contenders on the list are Emory, Columbus State and Georgia Tech, who they play twice this year.

“We ask a lot of universities around us to play competitively,” said Hoffman. “We had Clemson down here this past weekend and hit with them just to kind of get a competitive edge over all the other teams.”

Hoffman said she joined the team because she wanted to get involved on Auburn’s campus and meet new people. As a freshman, she did not know a lot of people so she thought joining the team would be a great opportunity.

“My favorite part about club tennis is the people I have met,” Hoffman said. “I have made the best friends from boys to girls. The people on the team are amazing.”

To get involved with club tennis all you need to do is show up to practice, on Mondays and Thursdays and pay your dues, which are only $40. You can come and play as much as you want. Practices are not mandatory and are at your convenience.
