Environmental Programs Provide Support to Campus

Auburn University is a wonderful place to work! Sure, we have our issues within each area or department, but overall it's being a part of a greater family, serving the student community, and the partnerships that overshadow some of situations we all face on the job. Serving the campus community is the primary focus of Environmental Programs.

What is Environmental Programs (Environmental Health and Safety)?

Envinronmental Programs is an office within the Department of Risk Management and Safety. EP provides the university with a group of certified and well trained professionals who cover a large variety of areas within the environmental field. The make up of EP consists of seven main areas of focus. Those areas include Hazardous Materials Management and Response, Stormwater Compliance, Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure, ADEM (Alabama Department of Environmental Controll) and EPA Compliance, Pathological and Medical Waste Management, Remedial Programs Management, and New site Construction Environmental Management. Basically, EP covers any and all environmental issues on the campus of Auburn University, as well as it's proprietary properties (to include the Auburn Airport, NCAT, Cooperative Extension Sites, and North Auburn Fisheries) in the State of Alabama. EP also monitors water and soil quality for the university. If it belongs to Auburn, it's covered.

What does Environmental Programs do?

Environmental Programs provide compliance oversight and environmental health and safety to Auburn University. From inside the lab at Chemsitry to the barn at E.V. Smith, EP works to insure Auburn is safe to it's employees and the environment through management and cooperation. For a successful EP to operate, it takes a dedication not only from the staff, but also the campus community. At the end of the day, we are all a part of the EP at Auburn. It is our responsibility to make sure we are compliant and environmentally friendly.

Who does EP provide services to the most?

The majority of time is spent working with main campus. For example, CVM and Poultry Science ultilize the Pathological Waste Management alot. Chemistry and Engineering ultilize HAZMAT Management due to the volume of chemical waste accumulated by a campus this size and makeup. In reality, any area or college on campus, or off, can and do request service from EP at some point.
