New York Fashion Week, Miss USA, meeting and styling numerous celebrities.
For Kaitlin Jones, it is just another day at work.
Jones' love for fashion started at a young age but it wasn't until she was 16 that she got the fashion opportunity every girl dreams of having. She was shopping for a prom dress in Eufaula, Ala. when Sherri Hill spotted and approached her. She instantly asked Jones to model for her in New York, which was the beginning of Jones following her fashion dreams.
Sherri Hill designs special occasion dresses that can be found in the wardrobes of Hollywood stars and fashion influencers. Her designs have been wardrobed by Miranda Lambert at the 2010 Country Music Awards along with Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride, Kate Gosselin, Nicole Polizzi and many more.
Her designs can be considered the "go-to" prom and pageant evening wear. Eight of the Top Ten Miss USA 2009 finishers were wearing a Sherri Hill gown.
Working for Sherri Hill is what inspired Jones to learn more about the fashion industry and major in apparel merchandise.
"I've always had a passion for keeping up with fashion trends," Jones said. Aesthetics, an apparel merchandise requirement class, has been her favorite thus far. The class is focused on students basically becoming their own designer and picking a target consumer and designing clothes.
The experience with Sherri Hill has helped Jones apply apparel merchandise concepts to her classes. "I can actually visual what I'm doing and I have a better understanding of the concepts we learn," she said.
Currently Jones works in the mentoring program with Sherri Hill and will move into the sales department starting this summer.
Trips to market in Dallas, Chicago and New York City are quite common for Jones. "Going to market has been such a great opportunity to see how the retail sales side of everything works," she said.
Most recently Jones worked with Sherri Hill in what many would consider being the highest honor to be invited to, New York Fashion Week.
Kendall Jenner, sister of the Kardashians, is the featured model this season of Sherri Hill's designs. Jones helped style Jenner and assisted Hill in the photo shoots where Donald Trump made a surprise appearance.
"New York was an experience I will never forget. I got to help stone a dress that came in late that ended up on the runway," Jones said.
Kathie Lee Gifford's daughter also works for Sherri Hill and landed the entire crew a spot on "The Today Show."
Kaitlin Jones is living every young fashionista's dream. "It's been hard work but I know that in the end it will be so worth it," she said.
