It’s that time of the year again – fall semester is in full swing and students are beginning to fall into their daily routines. Both freshmen and seasoned Auburn students are experiencing some of the “give and take” that attending a major university requires, turning his or her life into a juggling act.

While academics and social life tend to dominate the average student’s list of priorities, physical fitness is often placed on the backburner. Between studying, campus involvement and socializing with friends, it is hard to find the time to exercise.

Fortunately, Auburn University’s College of Education offers an array of physical education courses for undergraduates to enroll in for academic credit, while also promoting a healthy lifestyle. From weight training to bowling, kayaking to Tae Kwando, there is a physical education course available to suit each student’s fitness needs.

The opening of the Recreation and Wellness Center last year created even more opportunities for students to get fit. With a state-of-the-art facility and innovative, fat-burning group fitness classes available to students, working out instantly became more appealing.

Courses like Active Auburn and Freshman Fit were created, allowing those enrolled to earn academic credit by simply participating in group fitness classes. This gives students free reign to build their own schedule and choose classes that best satisfy their needs.

This August, a new online system was set in place for both intramural sports and group fitness at Auburn University. The system, IMLeagues, makes getting active at Auburn quick and easy.

Upon creating an account, students are able to join intramural sports teams and search group fitness classes. IMLeagues displays a detailed description for each class and allows students to view the class roster prior to enrolling. For Active Auburn and Freshman Fit students, this provides confirmation that they did indeed attend class, which is a large portion of their grade.

Additionally, a student’s IMLeagues account can be accessed anytime and anywhere through the REC*IT app, which further facilitates active lifestyles.

In regards to intramural sports, all Auburn students are eligible to join a team through IMLeagues. Intramural sports are a great way to stay active, while also having fun.

Staying fit is no small feat, but with the added pressure of difficult exams, social obligations and general mental stability, keeping fit can seem impossible.

Fortunately, Auburn University provides countless resources that enable students to put fitness first. By simply allotting a little extra time and finding a sense of balance, the impossible can become a reality.
