Auburn University’s Student Government Association will kick off its Homecoming celebration on Friday, October 2nd with the annual parade followed by a free concert event downtown.
The Alumni Association sponsors this year’s Homecoming parade that will begin at 6 p.m. on Thach Avenue and lead through downtown on South College Street. It will circle around on Gay Street and end back on Thach Avenue. The parade will include floats from several on-campus organizations, the Auburn University Marching Band, TigerPaws, Miss Auburn University, Miss Auburn, Miss Alabama, Aubie, the cheerleaders, the War Wagon, local dance studios and more.
Directly after the parade at 7 p.m., University Program Council is sponsoring a free concert event downtown called Plainsfest at Homecoming. The event will be held downtown in the Gay Street parking lot and will begin with a pep rally and the Miss Homecoming candidates presenting their platforms. The Plainsfest headliner is Parachute with Matt Wertz as the opening performer. Various vendors and food trucks will also be at the event and open containers are permitted.
UPC's Director of Major Entertainment, Sagar Leva, says they are excited to partner with SGA this year to host Plainsfest featuring Matt Wertz and Parachute during homecoming weekend. "This event partnership will enhance the Homecoming experience for the Auburn Family!" Leva said.
The event is open to the public and the SGA Director of Homecoming, Mallory Meagher, says she’s eager to see Auburn students, alumni and family come together the night before the football game against San Jose State. “Our team is excited to have the Auburn family involved in such a special tradition!” Meagher said.
