As a little girl growing up in Oneonta, Ala. Faith Palmer dreamed of becoming a cheerleader at Auburn University. Although most childhood dreams come to fade, Palmer’s stayed fast.

“The moment I stepped on Auburn’s campus, I knew this was where I was supposed to be,” said Palmer recalling a visit to Auburn University. “I didn’t understand why at the time, but have now seen I had a purpose here.”

Palmer discovered her purpose at Auburn was to fulfill her dreams. Though many people cheer in high school, Palmer entered into an exclusive club as one of 10 Auburn University cheerleaders.

The role of a cheerleader is complex in unto itself, but to be an Auburn cheerleader takes a person with a true understanding of what it means to “believe in auburn and love it.”

Palmer embraced her role as the face of Auburn University and the spirit which drives the university towards excellence. She helped to rouse the spirits of Auburn fans at football,
basketball and volleyball games as well as gymnastics meets.

She also serves as a role model for thousands of little girls who dream of cheering in front of thousands of Auburn fans at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

One of Palmer’s favorite memories took place in Jordan-Hare. On September 19, 2009 as the Auburn Tigers were set to take the field against the West Virginia Mountaineers, the skies opened up and poured rain onto the fans in the stadium. The game was postponed for more than an hour.

Regardless of the circumstances,” said Palmer, “Auburn fans including myself stood in the rain screaming War Eagle. Regardless of the weather, Auburn fans never wavered when it came to supporting their team.”

Like many other Auburn fans, Palmer’s favorite Auburn memory is an obvious demonstration of what it means to “believe in Auburn and love it.”

A senior graduating in December, Palmer will be graduating with, a bachelor of the arts in public relations, in December.

“I’d like to think Auburn and Auburn Cheerleading can’t go on without me, but unfortunately that’s not the case,” said Palmer. “Auburn will go on to become better every year. I’m just happy to say I’ve had the opportunity to leave small footprints here along the way.”

As Palmer prepares to graduate in the fall, she will leave a legacy that will help to preserve the pride, passion and tradition created by past generations for those still to come.
