Junior League of Lee County to host Walk/Run

On Saturday April 16, 2011 at Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art, the Junior League hosts their 5th Annual walk/run fundraiser supporting various community organizations that focus on arts and literacy for children in Lee County.

Fun for all ages, all proceeds of the race will benefit the Junior League’s mission of arts and literacy for the children of Lee County.

Tara Maple, the 2010-2011 President of Junior League of Lee County says, "It's a fun morning! There are activities for the children, treats for the dogs, and snacks for everyone! Come out and join us!"

Programs supported in 2009-2010 include the Child Advocacy Center, City of Auburn Parks and Recreation, Dean Road Elementary School, Jules Collins Museum of Fine Art, Lee County Literacy Coalition, Lynn Terra Ballet, and JLLC, "Done-in-A-Day" Program.

The women of Junior League strive to extend educational programs that promote literacy arts to all children. The Junior League is a volunteer-based organization of more than 100 women who call Lee County home, and strive to improve Lee County through leadership, service, funding and advocacy.

The Junior League of Lee County has had multiple successful fundraising events in the past, such as the Poinsetta Sale and Rummage Sale, and gratefully acknowledges the help of local community help through sponsors such as Auburn Bank, Envy Salon,  BBVA Compass and Lee Magazine just to name a few.

Registration for the race begins at 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning, and the timed race begins at 9:00 a.m. Participants can choose to walk or run 1.5 miles or 5K. Registration is $20, and includes a t-shirt and goodie bag. Children 10 and under free, and additional t-shirts will be offered for $10.

Participants also receive free admittance into the Museum, as well as offering special activities for the kids to enjoy. Pets are welcome in the walk/run as well.
