Hannah Swanson is following her passion. Finding humor in life and entertaining people in her writing is what Hannah does best.
Hannah is a second generation Auburn student and a member of Alpha Chi Omega. She is a huge Bo Jackson fan and even has a dog named after him. Hannah also served as the vice president of recruitment this year.
“I have learned how to work with people and to manage situations. Taking on that role was a great experience and really teaches you how to work with people and get a feel of what its like to be in charge of something; for instance 150 girls, which gets a little overwhelming at times.”
After writing for The Odyssey for a while, Hannah was selected by the campus’s managing editor to be the new Editor and Chief for The Odyssey, which is a Greek life magazine. As editor and chief, Hannah will recruit writers from a wide variety of Greek organizations, do the layout for the print version each week, and then edit and submit everyone’s articles online.
Hannah’s personality really comes out in her articles in the Odyssey. One of her favorite articles she has written so far is titled, “If Every School in the SEC Were a Drink,” which if you ask Hannah, got some pretty hilarious attention.
“I was expecting the heat, but some of the things people said I didn’t think they would get that worked up about it. People don’t like it when you make fun of their football teams.”
Hannah is a junior majoring in public writing and has a minor in journalism.
“As a writer, I love Southern literature and magazines that focus on Southern culture. Think like Garden and Gun, Southern Living, or Society South. My dream job is to work with a magazine with a southern focus,” says Hannah.
