It's been an eventful year for the Auburn Ultimate Frisbee team. Losing by a single point to miss out of nationals would've been a season killer, but in a stroke of luck, the team above them was declared ineligible and Auburn was tossed back into the mix.
Since 1984, the USA Ultimate College Series has had a national championship and for the first time in history, Auburn University will be represented.
"We got home on Sunday night after the tournament and thought we were done with ultimate for the college season," said Reid Williams, a player on the team. "I got a call from Martin (Newman) to check the USA Ultimate website."
"Oh, I was ecstatic," said Martin Newman, another player. "I mean, this has got to be a one in a million chance that another team would get disqualified in order to qualify us."
A member of the Tulane Ultimate team admitted to forging academic records in order to play says a report on www.usaultimate.org.
"Auburn is going to crush it at Nationals," said Dixson Bledsoe, a supporter of the team. "Auburn has challenged and even beaten some of the top ranked teams in the country and their energy levels are through the roof right now."
The team, which is a member of the Southeastern division secured the fourth place spot behind Georgia, Central Florida and Florida State.

"We're (the Southeast) definitely considered the most difficult division in the country so I'm honored to represent Auburn at the national level," says Newman.
In the article citing the offense, Ty Krajec, USA Ultimate Manager of Competition and Athlete Programs, said, "Auburn is a worthy recipient of a trip to Nationals, and we hope they represent the Southeast region well."
"From the beginning of the season, I had a feeling that this year's team would make it to nationals," Williams said.
Even with a good season, overall the team is young touting four freshman said Williams. "They are extremely athletic and got great experience playing some of the best teams in the country," said Williams. "This experience came in handy late in the season for them."

With excitement in the air it will be critical that the team can focus back in on the challenge set forth ahead of them.
"I know each and every one of those guys is fully committed to working hard and getting better to get ready before they go," said Bledsoe.
The USA Ultimate College Championships will be held in Milwaukee, Wisc., on May 22-25. You can find more information about the event here.
