Philanthropy is something that we all want to be involved in, but sadly most of us shy away from. The time commitment is normally what draws people away, however, for the students and neighbors of Auburn University, philanthropy “parties” are put on for convenience and awareness. The programs below are just a few ideas to get started!
1. Greek Life
Auburn University’s greek system is extremely active in charity, and each sorority and fraternity have their own charity of choice. To raise awareness and to fundraise, majority of the chapters put on fall and spring events. A couple to look out for this spring are Phi Mu and Beta’s crawfish boil to support Children’s Miracle Network and Kappa Delta’s Shamrock run to support Girl Scouts of the USA. These events are not only promoting something special, but they are a great way to enjoy the afternoons with friends. (Photo: Google image).
2. The Big Event
Held in March each year, this spring time affair, hosted by the student government, is a great way to experience the surroundings of Auburn. Hundreds of people volunteer to help out small businesses, schools, churches and families clean up and rebuild their special places. The great part about The Big Event is seeing how helping others around you, even for a few hours, can make such a difference.
3. Dance Marathon
If you love children and have a passion for dancing, this is the event for you! Dance Marathon is put on once a year in the Auburn Student Center, and all the proceeds go to help The Children’s Miracle Network. Participants come to dance the day away while sharing stories with the children affected by illnesses. (Photo: Google image).
These are just some of the options that Auburn University has for involvement, and they are highly encouraged! Each one is designed to be fun and positive for all participating parties, and the outcome is something truly amazing. If getting involved is something that interests you, take a look around Auburn! You won’t be disappointed.
