PRSSA :: Educating, Networking, Careering

As most College of Liberal Arts students have heard, an organization called PRSSA has been welcoming students interested in Public Relations and Communication for years now. PRSSA stands for Public Relations Student Society of America and it is a network of more than 10,000 college students interested in those majors. The organization meets every Monday during the school year at a specific time that’s available for most students.

The organization connects students with resources and specific people to broaden their education, network, and to eventually begin a career.
Veazey Tramel is a senior at Auburn majoring in Public Relations. Veazey has been a member of PRSSA since she was a sophomore at Auburn and she said that it has really helped her along with her career and figuring out her future goals.
“When I joined PRSSA I wasn’t really sure what it was going to be about, but I was really glad I joined after the first meeting we had,” she said.
Most of the meetings are very informational and really help students in Public Relations and Communication. During the meetings, guest speakers from different PR and Communication companies come in and speak with the students to give them advice and to basically educate them on their career. Students are able to ask questions about things they are unsure of in the fields of PR and Communication and the guest speakers are always happy to help answer them.
“In each meeting we have about 15 people ask questions and they are always extremely helpful to sit and listen in on because it is usually things that I would want to know as well,” she said.
Last year, the members of Auburn’s PRSSA did a promotional event for Buffalo Wild Wings.
“The event for Buffalo Wild Wings was so much fun because I actually felt like I was working and doing the things that I will probably doing for a company when I graduate,” she said.
Twitter and Facebook were both used in the promotion of the event because they are two of the main social media that PR uses today.
PRSSA is a great way to get educated and to get networking started for the future. With the different speakers that come in during the weeks you can get great connections to possibly begin a new job or do an internship.
