The Auburn area is now home to two convenient locations of the fun and fantastic art class studios, Sips n Strokes.
Both of the area’s Sips n Strokes studios are only minutes from the Auburn University campus. The Auburn store is located at 2408 E. University Drive and the second branch can be found at 127 S. 8th St in historic downtown Opelika.
Artist Wendy LoVoy premiered her Sips n Strokes store in Alabama in 2004. LoVoy started by teaching classes, of about 16 people for one night of each month, how to paint their very own masterpieces. Little did she know her casual and fun art instruction class would quickly become popular and branch out to several locations in various states.
Auburn students frequently take advantage of Sips n Strokes’ sessions as a way to escape their classes and homework and have an enjoyable evening with their friends.
Katie Hart, a sophomore in pre-pharmacy at Auburn University, said, “I first heard about Sips n Strokes though several of my friends who had gone and really enjoyed the class.”
People that attend Sips n Strokes classes may go for any number of reasons, such as to gain a new experience, to make a lovely painting to decorate your living space, to learn more about the art of painting or simply to spend quality time with your friends.
“Sips n Strokes is a place that you can go to learn how to paint step by step while sipping on your favorite beverage,” Hart explained.
Whatever beverage you choose to bring along to sip as you stroke is completely up to you. It does not have to be an alcoholic beverage. Individuals bring all types of beverages from juice to Gatorade to soda, but the most popular drink of choice is wine.
The studio allows any drink of your choice so that no one who wants to attend is denied simply because they are under 21.
Sips n Strokes has a wide variety of paintings to choose from since everyone has their own taste and style. You may go online to the Sips n Strokes website to view all of the classes and their corresponding paintings.
“They offer an assortment of paintings ranging from scenery to abstract art,” Hart said. “My favorite paintings that they offer are the ones featuring Aubie.”
Although Sips n Strokes is focused on creating a memorable and enjoyable experience for its classes, the studio always remembers to give back to worthy causes and organizations. The store is a proud sponsor of Children’s Hospital of Birmingham, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society and several area organizations.
Sips n Strokes is currently expanding and premiering three brand new locations in Athens, Ga., Columbus, Ga. and Greenville, S.C. Wherever your travels may take you, a Sips n Strokes is never far away and always ready to offer a fun-filled evening.
