Auburn sure has given us whiplash with its weather this year, but spring has sprung on the plains. Despite the random days that the temperatures drop to the low 40s, we’re starting to have some beautiful weather. After being cooped up during the past few months, we’re all ready to get outside and enjoy some nice weather. Wondering what there is to do in Auburn on a sunny afternoon? Here are a few answers to your question!
Many people’s first thoughts on a nice day are: “let’s go to the pool” and pool weather is officially here to stay, hopefully. With the amount of apartment complexes in Auburn, there are numerous pools for the students to enjoy, so grab your friends and a cooler and head to your favorite spot. Creeskide and Aspen Heights are two of the nicest pools in the area and are very spacious to accommodate a lot of people.
Baseball season is underway and Plainsman Park is always open for Auburn fans. The Tigers would love your support as they take on their different opponents. Grab a hotdog and a soft drink from the concession stand and enjoy an afternoon cheering on our team. Students have started the trend of filling up the parking deck that looks over the left field line and watching the games from there. Visit Auburn Baseball to see the Tigers’ schedule.
Grabbing lemonade from Toomer’s Drugs and walking over to Samford Lawn is a nice way to relax on a sunny afternoon. Get a blanket, pack a picnic and enjoy one of the most beautiful buildings on Auburn’s campus. More recently, people have started putting up hammocks in the trees surrounding the building and reading books or studying. People playing Frisbee and dogs running around are common things to see around Samford, so join the fun.
If you’re into hammocking, or nature in general, head over to Auburn’s very own Chewacla State Park. Located just off South College St, the park is open to the public for a small entry fee. There are large grassy areas perfect for letting your dog run around or to lounge on a towel and soak up some rays. Large gazebos are also available for picnics. If you feel like taking a little bit of a hike, you can wander down to the waterfall and dip your feet in the cool stream. Of course, there are many other areas of Chewacla that you can explore, too.
With only a few weeks of school left for this semester, we are all pretty busy with last-minute homework and projects. Take a break every once in a while and get out on the town and enjoy what Auburn has to offer!
