Goodwin Hall is where the band’s old practice room was located and held approximately 250 band members. The band now exceeds 380 band members. More space is needed for the members to practice and store their instruments and uniforms.

The new practice field is located off of Hemlock. This new location provides the band with more room to grow, but even though the practice field is complete, they are still lacking shelter, restrooms and storage.

Raising money for a new band hall is one of the top priorities for the band, according to Dr. Doug Rosener, director of percussion studies and associate director of bands. He also says the band would love to have a “center of operations in one place providing shelter, storage, rehearsal rooms and faculty offices for the students and directors.”

Depending on how much money the band raises, will determine what new facilities they can afford and provide. If the band receives their wish of a new band hall including all the facilities they requested, it would be approximately $15 million.

Since the new practice hall will take many years to complete, Anne-Katrin Gramberg, dean of the College of Liberal Arts, donated $1 million for a pavilion to provide shelter for the band until their new practice hall is finished.

The band realizes it is a difficult time to be raising money, and fundraising will be a long process, but they also desire for the band to continue to thrive and prosper in the years to come.

“Strike up the Band” is the slogan for their fundraising campaign, and the band is going to be advertising at the football games more than ever this year in efforts to increase their donations.

The reason for moving locations for the band’s practice field was because of Auburn University’s decision to expand. The University is in the process of building an Office of Information Technologies building and a new parking deck on Auburn Marching Band’s old practice field, the Wilbur “Bodie” Hinton Field. This required the band to relocate.

Rosener believes the band students are happy with the move in location because the new practice field is better suited for their needs, but is worried about the band members on game day regarding the long trek to the football stadium.

"It's a really far distance from the stadium, so on game days the students have to walk a really long way carrying very heavy instruments, and they do not have any place to store their belongings," said Rosener.

The Auburn Band is excited for their new practice field. They have high hopes of raising more money this year than in the past. The proceeds will be put toward the new band hall and facilities to continue the growth of the band program. They are very thankful to the University for allowing them to have this opportunity.
