It’s the happiest place on earth and the Mecca for any kid at heart: Disney World. The home of Mickey Mouse also provides an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for college students around the country. The Disney College Program provides students with hand-on experience from customer relations, communications and more.
Auburn student Kelli Bagwell spent her junior year making magic in Orlando.
“It was the best experience of my life,” Bagwell said. “I was down there from January to August. I was down there during the heat of the summer and still had a blast. I worked parades for eight months.”
The program is open to any full-time or part-time student that is currently enrolled at an accredited university or college. Students must meet any school requirements to participate in the program. Each student goes through a top-notch interview process, which alone offers valuable experience for future careers.
Bagwell’s experience gave her professional experience to last a lifetime and is currently a recruiter at Auburn for the program. She is the first to suggest the program to any college student.
“I would suggest the Disney College Program to any student, especially any Auburn student because the Auburn Family is so large and in charge down there,” Bagwell said. “I’ve met so many Auburn alumni who have high positions from management to supervisors. It was a great way to meet people you never would have met otherwise.”
On top of the professional and customer relations experience that Bagwell and other students have received through their participation with the Disney College Program, one of the greatest memories students make are helping to create Disney magic for guests.
“The best thing I got out of the program was that I literally did things that I never would have done when I left Auburn,” Bagwell said. “I never in a million years thought I would work for Disney. The interactions I made every day making magic and making dreams come true. From putting smiles on little kids faces to seeing grown adults act like they were two, it was just the best experience ever.”
The Disney College Program is currently taking applications for the 2014 program. Students can visit the Disney College Program website for an overview of the program and application.
