Everyday America is surrounded by logos and trademarks. The ones that catch our eyes can most notably be associated with their companies. McDonalds golden arches and the Nike Swoosh are such examples of these.

The masterminds behind these logos are highly skilled graphic designers. They have a unique skill set and a high level of creativity that allows them to bring these graphics to life.

Auburn has one of the top graphic design programs in the country and students within the major are not afraid to admit it.

“Auburn is one of the strongest graphic design programs in the nation. It’s a lot of fun, but very challenging. Great peers in the program and faculty,” said Grace Garrett a senior in graphic design.

Obtaining a degree from one of the top graphic design programs in the country doesn’t come without breaking a sweat. Graphic design students spend more hours in the Wallace Design Building than they care to talk about.

One can’t get away with just creativity alone. A strong work ethic is essential to completing the program.

“Graphic design is probably most well known for its time commitment. Lots of late night studio hours, but it’s definitely a fulfilling degree,” said Garrett.

The graphic design program not only gives students the tools and resources to create images and logos, but it also helps them think outside the box and see the creativity and marketing appeal in advertisement.

“The program is geared toward the job market, but we do a mix of theoretical design and also processes that will be useful in our future jobs. So we do things like book design, magazine design, illustration and CD covers,” said Garrett.

Although diverse, the group can’t help but become close together with all the hours they spend in the studio with one another.

Although graphic design majors share common passions for creativity and commitment, there different interests will hopefully provide a career for them some day.

“Basically every industry at some point uses a graphic designer, and you can find a job with any company in some realm, so whatever interests you, you can find a place for that,” said Garrett.

Graphic design seniors can see the light at the end of the tunnel as they approach graduation. With a degree in a field that is so broad, the world is their oyster.
