This time of year students are busy worrying about not getting a call back from their dream internship. Some students are worried about finding an internship that meets necessary school requirements.

Students often feel lost when trying to find an internship that best fits their needs.

“I was so stressed trying to find an internship that was close to home and fit my major,” said Danielle Sherman, a senior in public relations.

Within the department of communication and journalism, there are several different ways to learn about new internships.

For public relations majors, logging onto WarEagle.me is the first step. On this site, new jobs and internships are posted regularly. It gives students a first-hand look at some of the top internships offered in the field.

“I wish I would have know about the site,” said Sherman. “I was stuck looking on Google and in local newspapers for a job.”

For those not majoring in public relations there are still several ways to find the perfect internship. The department website keeps a current listing of internships offered in all majors.

Also, for internships that have a rapid application deadline, faculty members will send out an e-mail alerting students of the available opportunity.

“I went on several interviews with companies I hear about through e-mail,” said Caroline Van Pelt, a junior in communication. “Having professors e-mail me made me feel like I was kept up-to-date and aware of new opportunities.”

A third option to find your perfect internship is to check the internship board on the first floor of Tichenor Hall. This board contains letters from organizations looking to fill positions. Auburn has built a good relationship with many companies in the area, so when they need to fill a position they come looking for interns at Auburn.

“I love knowing no matter where I go, the Auburn name means something,” said Sherman. “Employers know a student from Auburn has been prepared and can do the job.”

Internships are designed to put what the students have been taught in class into real world experience.

Benjamin Franklin once said, “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.”
