Being a part of the interior design program in the College of Human Sciences prepares students for the real world. According to DesignIntelligence magazine, Auburn’s interior design program is ranked No. 1 in the U.S. along with SCAD, Savannah College of Art and Design.
Laura Giles, a senior in Auburn University’s interior design program, knows what it means to put hard work and dedication into the program. Laura recently was awarded the SGA Outstanding Student Award for the College of Human Sciences.
“It is a great honor to receive an award that represents all of the long hours I have put into my program,” said Giles. “It is a challenging major, but I love that it is really personal and I get undivided teacher attention most any time I need it.”
Giles is extremely active on Auburn’s campus and especially loves being a part of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID).
Laura shares what an impact it has made to the design program being ranked top in the nation.
“Being ranked a number one program is a really big deal for the students,” said Giles. “I have already had so many great opportunities put in front of me because word is spreading that our program is so strong.”
Giles has worked for interior designers in her hometown of Austin, Texas and is currently working for IE Designs locally.
“I am so excited to start my professional internship this summer in New York,” said Giles. “My Auburn experience has really prepared me and gotten me excited to do great new things!”
Laura recommends the program to anyone who has an interest in design.
“It is definitely a lot of work, hard work,” said Giles. “I can’t imagine myself doing anything else though, and I completely love every aspect of our program.”
