This year on February 10th Auburn will hold its seventh annual Auburn University Dance Marathon. This is an event that Auburn Students look forward to all year round, putting their best efforts forward to make every year better than the last.
Auburn University Miracle Network Dance Marathon is a year-long, campus-wide fundraising effort that culminates in a 14-hour Dance Marathon on February 10th to celebrate the money and awareness raised for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. The money they raise stays locally to benefit the Children's Hospital At Midtown Medical Center at Columbus Regional Health.
Auburn University Dance Marathon, or better known as AUDM, raised $541,832 last year in 2017. This year AUDM is hoping to surpass last year by over $100,000 by setting their goal to $658,000, and they have no doubt that they can reach it.
“The number we chose is connected to the number of surgeries performed at the Children’s Hospital at Columbus Regional at Midtown Medical Center, during the 2017 fiscal year,” said AUDM president Tiffany Thompson.
The money that is raised during the Dance Marathon helps the hospital purchase specialized equipment, alleviate health care costs for families, and provide exceptional care to all children and their families.
The Dance Marathon is an event like no other. It is filled with games, entertainment, food, friends and, of course, dancing. After spending all day standing for the kids, the fundraising total is revealed, which is an experience you will never forget.
Kacie Adams, a senior at Auburn, has been participating in Dance Marathon since she was a freshman. “During the marathon, the kids have so much light and excitement in their eyes, you can tell that they really appreciate that we’re there supporting them, trying to raise as much money as we can.”
At the Dance Marathon, you will find students, kids, parents, and teachers dancing around the student center ballroom. During the 14-hour long fun, there will be different musical artists to dance to and a photo booth to capture all of the day's memories, along with Wii games and many other activities for a fun-filled day!
“At the end of the day when they reveal how much money we raised, its make the swollen feet and aching back all worth it,” said Alex Stewart, a 2017 first-year participant. “ Knowing that I did something to better these kids lives is extremely rewarding, I can’t wait to do it all again this year”
This year's Dance Marathon will take from 10 a.m. to 12 a.m. in the Auburn Student Center Ballroom. If you would like to participate in the Auburn University Dance Marathon you can register here at http://www.audancemarathon.com/
